Growing up in Colorado Springs, CO, Jonny found most of his early inspiration in the beauty of the natural world around him. First picking up a camera at 6-years old he began seeing the world through a lens. This obsession with the craft of filmmaking continued to grow through middle school and high school while creating fun and terrible short films with friends, until after graduation when he decided to attend the University of Colorado and further study film in hopes to make it a career.
College is where Jonny found his niche in experimental film with a particular fascination around science fiction. His goal was to push the limits of how stories can be told with immense visual expression through cinematography and editing with little to no budget. His directorial short film debut Mecha (2017) went on to receive seven awards in festivals in the U.S., Europe & Asia. After graduating he wanted to pursue an MFA in Film production. He was accepted into USC and Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, and decided to pursue his MFA in Cinematography from Chapman University.
While continuing to hone his craft and work on industry skills as a Director of Photography at Dodge College, Jonny has continued to work freelance in music videos as well as personal projects to continue expressing the experimental inclinations he developed during his undergraduate studies.
